Algebra, VIII, p. 452, Appendix 2. Determinants over a Noncommutative Field

a) Let uu be an automorphism of V. There exists a unique element of Dab∗D^*_{ab}, denoted by det uu and called the determinant of uu, such that we have

(15) ω(u(v1),...,u(vn))=\omega (u(v_1), . . . , u(v_n)) = (det uu)ω(v1,...,vn)\omega (v_1, . . . , v_n)

for every basis (v1,...,vn)(v_1, . . . , v_n) of V and every ω\omega in Ω(V).

b) The mapping u↦u\mapsto det uu from GL(V)\mathbf{G}\mathbf{L}(V) to Dab∗D^*_{ab} is a group homomorphism.

Let ω0\omega_0 be an element of Ω(V). The mapping (v1,...,vn)↦(v_1, . . . , v_n)\mapsto ω0(u(v1),...,u(vn))\omega_0(u(v_1), . . . , u(v_n)) from B(V) to Dab∗D^*_{ab} belongs to Ω(V). By Corollary 2 of VIII, p. 451, there exists a unique element tt of Dab∗D^*_{ab} such that we have

ω0(u(v1),...,u(vn))=tω0(v1,...,vn) \omega_0(u(v_1), . . . , u(v_n)) =t\omega_0(v_1, . . . , v_n)

for (v1,...,vn)(v_1, . . . , v_n) in B(V). If ω\omega is another element of Ω(V), then there exists an element ss of Dab∗D^*_{ab} such that

ω(v1,...,vn)=sω0(v1,...,vn) \omega (v_1, . . . , v_n) =s\omega_0(v_1, . . . , v_n)

for every basis (v1,...,vn)(v_1, . . . , v_n) of V (loc. cit.). We immediately deduce the relation

ω(u(v1),...,u(vn))=tω(v1,...,vn) \omega (u(v_1), . . . , u(v_n)) =t\omega (v_1, . . . , v_n)

This proves a); assertion b) is an immediate consequence of a).

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
