Algebra, VIII, p. 458, Appendix 2. Determinants over a Noncommutative Field

Let V be a right vector space over the field D, of finite dimension n⩾2n\geqslant 2.

a) The subgroup SL(V)\mathbf{S}\mathbf{L}(V) of GL(V)\mathbf{G}\mathbf{L}(V) is generated by the transvections.

b) The subgroup SL(V)\mathbf{S}\mathbf{L}(V) is the derived group of GL(V)\mathbf{G}\mathbf{L}(V) unless we have n=2n= 2 and D has two elements.

c) The group SL(V)\mathbf{S}\mathbf{L}(V) is equal to its derived group unless we have n=2n= 2 and D has two or three elements.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
