Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, VII, 55

Assume that kk is of characteristic p>0p >0. Denote by s\mathfrak{s} a Lie algebra with basis {x,y}\{x, y\} such that [x,y]=y[x, y] =y. Let V be a kk-vector space with basis {ei}i∈Z/pZ\{e_i\}_{i\in\mathbf{Z}/p\mathbf{Z}}. a) Show that V has a unique s\mathfrak{s}-module structure such that xei=ieixe_i=ie_i and yei=ei+1ye_i=e_{i+1} for all ii. This s\mathfrak{s}-module is simple.

b) Let g=s×V\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{s}\times V be the semi-direct product of s\mathfrak{s} by V. Show that g\mathfrak{g} is a solvable algebra of rank 1 whose derived algebra is not nilpotent.

c) An element of g\mathfrak{g} is regular if and only if its projection on s\mathfrak{s} is of the form ax+byax+by, with ab≠0ab\not= 0.

d) We have V0(x+y)=0V^0(x+y) = 0 and V0(x)=ke0V^0(x) =ke_0. Deduce (cf. Exerc. 6) that g\mathfrak{g} has Cartan subalgebras of dimension 1 (for example that generated by x+yx+y) and Cartan subalgebras of dimension 2 (for example that generated by xx and e0e_0).
