Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, VII, 56

Bourbaki marks this one as harder than the rest.

Assume that kk is finite. Denote by k′k' an infinite extension of kk. Let g\mathfrak{g} be a Lie algebra over kk. The rank of g\mathfrak{g}, denoted by rk(g\mathfrak{g}), is the rank of the k′k'-Lie algebra g′=g⊗kk′\mathfrak{g}'=\mathfrak{g}\otimes_kk'; an element of g\mathfrak{g} is said to be regular if it is regular in g′\mathfrak{g}'; these definitions do not depend on the choice of k′k'. Show that, if

Card(kk)≥\geq dimg−\mathfrak{g}- rk(g\mathfrak{g}),

g\mathfrak{g} contains a regular element (hence also a Cartan subalgebra).

(Use the following result: if aa is a non-zero homogeneous element of k[X1,...,Xn]k[X_1, . . . ,X_n], and if Card(kk)≥\geq deg(aa), there exists x∈knx\in k^n such that a(x)≠0.a(x)\not= 0.)
