Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter VII, § 4. Regular elements of a Lie group

Let G′G' be a finite dimensional Lie group over kk and ff an open morphism from G to G′G'. The image under ff of a regular element of G is a regular element of G′G'. If the kernel of ff is contained in the centre of G, an element g∈Gg\in G is regular if and only if f(g)f(g) is regular.

Indeed, let g′\mathfrak{g}' be the Lie algebra of G′G' and h\mathfrak{h} the ideal in g\mathfrak{g} given by the kernel of Tf∣gTf|\mathfrak{g}. Let ρ\rho be the linear representation of G on h\mathfrak{h} defined by ρ(g)=\rho (g) = Ad g∣hg|\mathfrak{h} for all g∈Gg\in G, and let Ad ∘f\circ f be the linear representation of G on g′\mathfrak{g}' given by the composite of ff with the adjoint representation of G′G'. These linear representations define an exact sequence of G-modules:

0→h→g→g′→0 0\rightarrow \mathfrak{h}\rightarrow \mathfrak{g}\rightarrow \mathfrak{g}'\rightarrow 0

By Lemma 2,rAd=rρ+rAd∘f2,r_{Ad}=r_{\rho}+r_{Ad\circ f}. Since rAd∘f=rAd∘fr_{Ad\circ f}=r_{Ad}\circ f and since ff is an open map, rAd∘f0=rAd0∘fr_{Ad\circ f}^0=r_{Ad}^0\circ f. Consequently:

rAd−rAd0=rρ−rρ0+(rAd−rAd0)∘f r_{Ad}-r^0_{Ad}=r_{\rho}-r_{\rho}^0+ (r_{Ad}-r_{Ad}^0)\circ f

Thus, if gg is regular, (rAd−rAd0)(f(g))=0(r_{Ad}-r^0_{Ad})(f(g)) = 0, which means that f(g)f(g) is regular. If the kernel of ff is contained in the centre of G,

rρ(g)=rρ0(g)=r_{\rho}(g) =r_{\rho}^0(g) = dimh\mathfrak{h} for all g∈Gg\in G. Consequently, if f(g)f(g) is regular, rAd(g)=rAd0(g)r_{Ad}(g) =r_{Ad}^0(g), in other words, gg is regular.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
