Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter VII, § 4. Regular elements of a Lie group

Let a∈Ga\in G and let m\mathfrak{m} be a complement of g1(a)\mathfrak{g}^1(a) in g\mathfrak{g}. Let U be a neighbourhood of 0 in g\mathfrak{g} and exp an exponential map from U to G. The map

f:(x,y)→f: (x, y) \rightarrow (exp yy)aa(exp xx)(exp yy)−1^{-1}

from (g1(a)×m)∩U(\mathfrak{g}^1(a)\times \mathfrak{m})\cap U to G is étale at (0,0)(0,0).

The tangent linear maps at 0 of the maps x→ax \rightarrow a(exp xx) and y→y \rightarrow (exp yy)aa(exp yy)−1^{-1} are the maps x→axx \rightarrow ax and y→ya−ay=a(a−1ya−y)y \rightarrow ya-ay=a(a^{-1}ya-y) from g\mathfrak{g} to TaG=agT_aG =a\mathfrak{g} (Chap. III, §3, no. 12, Prop. 46). Consequently, the tangent map of ff at (0,0)(0,0) is the map (x,y)→ax+a(a−1ya−y)=a(x+a−1ya−y)(x, y) \rightarrow ax+a(a^{-1}ya-y) =a(x+a^{-1}ya-y) from g1(a)×m\mathfrak{g}^1(a)\times \mathfrak{m} to aga\mathfrak{g}. This map is injective. Indeed, if x∈g1(a),y∈mx\in \mathfrak{g}^1(a), y\in \mathfrak{m} and if x+a−1ya−yx+a^{-1}ya-y = 0, then (Ad(aa)−1-1)yy = Ad(aa)x∈g1(a)x\in \mathfrak{g}^1(a) since Ad(aa)g1(a)⊂g1(a)\mathfrak{g}^1(a)\subset \mathfrak{g}^1(a). This implies that y∈g1(a)y\in \mathfrak{g}^1(a) and consequently that yy = 0. Since Ad(aa) is injective on g1(a)\mathfrak{g}^1(a), it follows that xx = 0. Since dim g=\mathfrak{g}= dimg1(a)+\mathfrak{g}^1(a) + dim m\mathfrak{m}, this shows that ff is étale at (0,0)(0,0).

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
