Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter VII, § 5. Decomposable linear Lie algebras

Let V′V' and V′′V'' be vector subspaces of V such that V′′⊃V′V''\supset V'. The set of x∈gl(V)x\in \mathfrak{g}\mathfrak{l}(V) such that x(V′′)⊂V′x(V'')\subset V' is a decomposable Lie subalgebra of gl(V)\mathfrak{g}\mathfrak{l}(V); indeed, for all x∈glx\in \mathfrak{g}\mathfrak{l}(V), the semi-simple and nilpotent components of xx are of the form P(x)P(x) and Q(x)Q(x), where P and Q are polynomials without constant term.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
