Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter VIII, § 1. The Lie algebra sl(2, k) and its representations

Let E be a finite dimensional vector space, and ρ\rho (resp. π\pi ) a linear representation of sl(2,k)\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}(2, k) (resp. SL(2,k)\mathbf{S}\mathbf{L}(2, k)) on E. Then ρ\rho and π\pi are said to be compatible if, for every nilpotent element xx of sl(2,k),π(ex)=eρ(x)\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}(2, k),\pi (e^x) =e^{\rho(x)}.

In other words, ρ\rho and π\pi are compatible if, for every nilpotent element xx of sl(2,k)\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}(2, k), the restriction of ρ\rho to kxkx is compatible with the restriction of π\pi to the group 1+kx1 +kx (Chap. VII, §3, no. 1).

If ρ\rho and π\pi are compatible, so are the dual representations, the mmth tensor powers, and the mmth symmetric powers of ρ\rho and π\pi, respectively (Chap. VII, §5, no. 4, Lemma 1 (i) and (ii)). Similarly for the representations induced by ρ\rho and π\pi on a vector subspace stable under ρ\rho and π(\pi (loc. cit.).

In particular, the representation ρm\rho_m of sl(2,k)\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}(2, k) on V(m)V(m) (no. 3) is compatible with the mmth symmetric power πm\pi_m of the identity representation π1\pi_1 of SL(2,k)\mathbf{S}\mathbf{L}(2, k). Putting en(m)=(nm)um−nvne^{(m)}_n=(^m_n)u^{m-n}v^n as above, we have

(m)(m)m−nn(m)(m)m-nn

πm(s)en\pi_m(s)e_n = (su)(sv)(su)(sv) (3)

n n

for s∈SL(2,k)s\in \mathbf{S}\mathbf{L}(2, k) and 0≤n≤m0\leq n\leq m.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
