Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter VIII, § 4. Split semi-simple Lie algebra defined by a reduced root system

It follows from Lemma 5 that every ideal of a\mathfrak{a} is homogeneous, since it is stable under the ad hαh_{\alpha}.

Denote by Q+Q_+ (resp. Q−Q_-) the set of linear combinations of elements of B with positive (resp. negative) integer coefficients, not all zero. Put a+=\mathfrak{a}_+= ∑μ∈Q+aμ\sum_{\mu\in Q_+}a^\mu and a−=∑μ∈Q−aμ\mathfrak{a}_-=\sum_{\mu\in Q_-}\mathfrak{a}^\mu. Since Q++Q+⊂Q+Q_++ Q_+\subset Q_+ and Q−+Q−⊂Q−,a+Q_-+ Q_-\subset Q_-,\mathfrak{a}_+

and a−\mathfrak{a}_- are Lie subalgebras of a\mathfrak{a}.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
