Let h\mathfrak{h} be a Cartan subalgebra of g\mathfrak{g}, and ss an element of Aut(g,h\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{h}) such that sH≠HsH\not=H for all non-zero HH in h\mathfrak{h}. Show that ss is of finite order. (Reduce to the case in which h\mathfrak{h} is splitting, and choose an integer n≥1n\geq 1 such that ε(s)n=1\varepsilon (s)^n= 1. Then there exists φ∈TQ\varphi \in T_Q such that f(φ)=snf(\varphi ) =s^n. Let σ\sigma be the transpose of s∣hs|\mathfrak{h}. Show that 1+σ+σ2+⋯+σn−1=01 +\sigma +\sigma^2+\cdots +\sigma^{n-1}= 0, and deduce that sn2=1.s^{n^2}= 1.)
