Let Γ\Gamma be a subgroup of P containing Q. Such a subgroup is stable under W.

a) Show that, if λ∈P++∩Γ\lambda \in P_{++}\cap \Gamma, every weight of E(λ)E(\lambda ) belongs to Γ\Gamma.

b) Let RΓ(g)R_{\Gamma}(\mathfrak{g}) be the subgroup of R(g)R(\mathfrak{g}) with basis the [λ][\lambda ], with λ∈P++∩Γ\lambda \in P_{++}\cap \Gamma. If E is a g\mathfrak{g}-module, [E]∈RΓ(g)[E]\in R_{\Gamma}(\mathfrak{g}) if and only if the weights of E belong to Γ\Gamma. Deduce that RΓ(g)R_{\Gamma}(\mathfrak{g}) is a subring of R(g)R(\mathfrak{g}).

c) Show that the homomorphism ch:RΓ(g)→Z[Γ]: R_{\Gamma}(\mathfrak{g})\rightarrow \mathbf{Z}[\Gamma ] is an isomorphism from RΓ(g)R_{\Gamma}(\mathfrak{g}) to the subring of Z[Γ]\mathbf{Z}[\Gamma ] consisting of the elements invariant under W. (Use Th. 2 (ii).)

d) Describe R(g)R(\mathfrak{g}) and RΓ(g)R_{\Gamma}(\mathfrak{g}) explicitly when g=sl(2,k)\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}(2, k) and Γ=Q\Gamma = Q.
