Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter VIII, § 8. Symmetric invariants

Let E be a finite dimensional g\mathfrak{g}-module. Let U(h)=S(h)U(\mathfrak{h}) =\mathbf{S}(\mathfrak{h}) be the enveloping algebra of h\mathfrak{h}. If u∈U(h)u\in U(\mathfrak{h}), then

Tr(uEu_E) =⟨ψ=\langle \psi(ch EE),u⟩, u\rangle.

It suffices to treat the case in which u=h1...hmu=h_1. . . h_m with h1,...,hm∈hh_1, . . . , h_m\in \mathfrak{h}. For all λ∈P\lambda \in P, let dλ=d_{\lambda}= dim EλE^{\lambda}. Then ch E=∑λdλeλE =\sum_{\lambda}d_{\lambda}e^{\lambda}, so ψ\psi(ch EE) =∑λdλ=\sum_{\lambda}d_{\lambda} exp(λ\lambda ) and hence

⟨ψ(ch E),u⟩=∑λdλ⟨exp⁡λ,h1…hm⟩ \langle \psi(\mathrm{ch}\,E),u\rangle = \sum_{\lambda} d_\lambda\langle\exp\lambda,h_1\ldots h_m\rangle
=∑λdλλ(h1)…λ(hm)(no. 1) = \sum_{\lambda} d_\lambda\lambda(h_1)\ldots\lambda(h_m)\qquad\text{(no. 1)}
=Tr uE. = \mathrm{Tr}\,u_E.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
