Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, VIII, 260

Let s=sl(2,k)\mathfrak{s}=\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}(2, k) and g=sl(3,k)\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}(3, k). Identify s\mathfrak{s} with a subalgebra of g\mathfrak{g} by means of an irreducible representation of s\mathfrak{s} of degree 3. Show that every subspace of g\mathfrak{g} containing s\mathfrak{s} and stable under adgs_{\mathfrak{g}}\mathfrak{s} is equal to either s\mathfrak{s} or g\mathfrak{g}; deduce that s\mathfrak{s} is maximal among the subalgebras of g\mathfrak{g} distinct from g\mathfrak{g}.
