Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, VIII, 268

a) Let G be the group associated to g=sl(n,k)\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}(n, k) by the procedure of §7, Exerc. 26. The natural g\mathfrak{g}-module structure on knk^n gives rise to a homomorphism φ:G→GL(n,k)\varphi : G\rightarrow \mathbf{G}\mathbf{L}(n, k). Use loc. cit. h) to prove that φ\varphi is injective, and loc. cit. f) to prove that

Im(φ\varphi ) =SL(n,k)=\mathbf{S}\mathbf{L}(n, k).

b) Let E be a finite dimensional sl(n,k\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}(n, k)-module, and ρ\rho the corresponding representation of sl(n,k)\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}(n, k). Show that there exists a unique representation π:SL(n,k)→GL(E)\pi :\mathbf{S}\mathbf{L}(n, k)\rightarrow \mathbf{G}\mathbf{L}(E) such that π(ex)=eρ(x)\pi (e^x) =e^{\rho(x)} for every nilpotent element xx of sl(n,k)\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}(n, k) (use aa))). We say that ρ\rho and π\pi are compatible. Generalize the results proved for n=2n= 2 in §1, no. 4.

c) Assume that kk is R,C\mathbf{R},\mathbf{C} or a complete field for a discrete valuation with residue field of characteristic ≠0\not= 0. Show that ρ\rho and π\pi are compatible if and only if π\pi is a homomorphism of Lie groups such that L(π)=ρL(\pi ) =\rho (same method as in Exerc. 18b18b) of §1).

d) Prove analogous results for sp(2n,k)\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{p}(2n, k) and Sp(2n,k)\mathbf{S}\mathbf{p}(2n, k).
