Let G be a Lie group, H a compact subgroup of G. Prove that there exists a neighbourhood V of H such that every subgroup of G contained in V is conjugate to a subgroup of H (apply Exerc. $18a$) to the space of compact subsets of G, cf. Integration, Chap. VIII, §5, no. 6).
