Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter IX, Appendix 1. Structure of compact groups

Every compact topological group G is isomorphic to a closed subgroup of a product of compact Lie groups.

Denote by G^\widehat{G} the set of classes of irreducible continuous unitary representations of G on finite dimensional complex Hilbert spaces (Spectral Theory, in preparation). For all u∈G^u\in \widehat{G}, let HuHu be the space of uu and ρu:G→U(Hu)\rho_u: G\rightarrow \mathbf{U}(H_u) the homomorphism associated to uu. By the Peter-Weyl theorem (Spectral Theory, in preparation), the continuous homomorphism ρ=(ρu)u∈G^\rho = (\rho_u)_{u\in\widehat{G}} from G to ∏u∈G^U(Hu)\prod_{u\in\widehat{G}}\mathbf{U}(H_u) is injective; since G is compact, ρ\rho induces an isomorphism

from G onto a closed subgroup of the group ∏u∈G^U(Hu)\prod_{u\in\widehat{G}}\mathbf{U}(H_u).

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
