Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter IX, Appendix 2. Representations of real, complex or quaternionic type

Let WGW^G be the subspace of W consisting of the elements invariant under G. The endomorphism ∫Gρ(g)dg\int_G\rho (g)dg of W is a projection with image WGW^G, compatible with the operations of G. In particular, dim WG=∫GW^G=\int_G Tr ρ(g)dg\rho (g)dg.

Put p=∫Gρ(g)dgp=\int_G\rho (g)dg; for h∈Gh\in G,

ρ(h)∘p=∫Gρ(hg)dg=∫Gρ(g)dg=p \rho (h)\circ p=\int_G\rho (hg)dg=\int_G\rho (g)dg=p

and similarly p∘ρ(h)=pp\circ \rho (h) =p. Thus, pp is compatible with the operations of G, and its image is contained in WGW^G. If w∈WGw\in W^G, we have p(w)=∫Gρ(g)wdg=wp(w) =\int_G\rho (g)w dg=w, hence the lemma.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
