Topologie algébrique, chapter I, § 2. Applications étales

Let B be a topological space, and let K and L be quasi-compact subsets of B. Suppose that for every point aa of K and every point bb of L, there exist disjoint neighbourhoods of aa and bb in B. Then there exist two disjoint open sets U and V in B such that K⊂UK\subset U and L⊂VL\subset V.

Let aa be a point of K. For every b∈Lb\in L, let Ua,bU_{a,b} and Va,bV_{a,b} be disjoint open neighbourhoods of aa and of bb. For fixed aa, the family (Va,b)b∈L(V_{a,b})_{b\in L} is an open covering of L. Since this space is quasi-compact, there exists a finite family Ta⊂LT_a\subset L such that the union VbV_b of the Va,bV_{a,b} for b∈Tab\in T_a contains L. The intersection UaU_a of the Ua,bU_{a,b} for b∈Tab\in T_a is an open neighbourhood of aa, since TaT_a is finite; moreover, UaU_a and VaV_a are disjoint. The (Ua)a∈A(U_a)_{a\in A} form an open covering of K. Since K is quasi-compact, there exists a finite family S⊂KS\subset K such that U=⋃a∈SUaU =\bigcup_{a\in S}U_a contains K. Then V=⋂a∈SVaV =\bigcap_{a\in S}V_a is an open subset of B which contains L. The lemma is proved.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
