Topologie algébrique, chapter I, § 2. Applications étales

Let E and B be topological spaces and let p:E→Bp: E\rightarrow B be an étale and separated mapping. Suppose that E is connected and that B is locally connected. Let W\mathscr{W} be a basis for the topology of B. Then, for every point aa of B, one has Card(Ea_a)⩽\leqslant sup(Card(W\mathscr{W}), Card(N\mathbf{N})).

Since the space B is locally connected, its topology has a basis W′\mathscr{W}' consisting of connected open sets, for example the connected components of the open sets of W\mathscr{W} (TG, I, p. 85, Prop. 11). By virtue of Lemma 4 below, there exists a basis V\mathscr{V} for the topology of B consisting of connected open sets and such that Card(V\mathscr{V})⩽\leqslant Card(W\mathscr{W})2^2.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
