Topologie algébrique, chapter I, § 4. Revêtements
Suppose that the space B is locally connected and that the B-spaces E and are coverings. Then the sheaf or is locally constant and, for every , the mapping is a bijection of its stalk at onto the set of mappings of into .
Analogously, the sheaf som is locally constant and, for every point of B, the mapping is a bijection of its stalk at onto the set of bijections of onto .
We shall denote by or and som. The assertions to be proved are of a local nature on B; we may therefore suppose that and are trivial coverings, where F and are discrete topological spaces.
Let us first prove that, for every connected open set U of B and every point of U, the mapping is a bijection. Let be a morphism of U-spaces; then is the mapping pr of F into . For every , the mapping pr is a continuous mapping of the connected space U into the discrete space , and is therefore constant, equal to pr. Thus . It follows that is a bijection; its inverse bijection associates with every mapping the U-morphism of into given by .
By hypothesis, every point admits a basis of connected open neighbourhoods; the mapping is therefore a bijection. The mappings , for U a nonempty connected open set of B and any point of , define a morphism of presheaves (relative to the basis of connected open sets of B) of the constant sheaf of stalk-type into the sheaf . From what precedes, this morphism induces a bijection on the stalks; it is therefore an isomorphism.
The assertions relative to the sheaf are proved analogously.
Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
