Théories spectrales, chapter I, § 3. Algèbres de Banach commutatives

Let A and B be commutative complex Banach algebras. For every algebra morphism π:A→B\pi : A\rightarrow B, the mapping X′(π)\mathsf{X}'(\pi ) is a proper partial mapping of X(B)\mathsf{X}(B) into X(A)\mathsf{X}(A).

In fact, X′(π)\mathsf{X}'(\pi ) is a continuous mapping of X′(B)\mathsf{X}'(B) into X′(A)\mathsf{X}'(A) (I, p. 10). The point at infinity of X′(B)\mathsf{X}'(B) (resp. of X′(A)\mathsf{X}'(A)) is the null character, and one has X′(π)(0)=0\mathsf{X}'(\pi )(0) = 0.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
