Théories spectrales, chapter I, § 3. Algèbres de Banach commutatives

Let A be a Banach algebra, let B be a commutative Banach algebra without radical, Every morphism of the underlying algebra of A into the underlying algebra of B is continuous.

Let h:A→Bh: A\rightarrow B be an algebra morphism and let (a,b)∈A×B(a, b)\in A\times B be a point adherent to the graph Γ of hh. Let χ∈X′(B)\chi \in \mathsf{X}'(B). The function x↦χ(h(x))x\mapsto \chi (h(x)) from A into C\mathbf{C} is an algebra homomorphism, hence is continuous (I, p. 29, th. 1). The map from A×BA\times B into C\mathbf{C} given by (x,y)↦χ(h(x))−χ(y)(x, y)\mapsto \chi (h(x))-\chi (y) is therefore continuous; it is zero on Γ, hence zero at (a,b)(a, b). Thus one has χ(h(a))=χ(b)\chi (h(a)) =\chi (b) for every χ∈X′(B)\chi \in \mathsf{X}'(B). Since B is without radical, one has h(a)=bh(a) =b. Thus the graph of hh is closed and therefore hh is continuous (EVT, I, p. 19, cor. 5).

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
