Théories spectrales, chapter I, § 3. Algèbres de Banach commutatives

Let Λ\Lambda be a set and V a subset of CΛ\mathbf{C}^{\Lambda}. The polynomially convex envelope of V is the smallest polynomially convex subset of CΛ\mathbf{C}^{\Lambda} containing V.

The polynomially convex envelope of V is the set of cc belonging to CΛ\mathbf{C}^{\Lambda} such that ∣P(c)∣⩽|P(c)|\leqslant supW∣P∣_W|P| for all P∈C[(Xλ)]P\in \mathbf{C}[(X_{\lambda})]. In fact, this set is polynomially convex by Lemma 3, and is contained in every polynomially convex set containing V by definition.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
