Théories spectrales, chapter I, § 6. Algèbres stellaires

Let A be a star algebra and xx a normal element of A. Then ∥x∥=ϱ(x)\|x\|=\varrho (x).

Since the star subalgebra of A generated by xx and x∗x^* is commutative, one may suppose that A is commutative. In this case, the cor. results from th. 1, from example 2 of I, p. 102 and from th. 1 of I, p. 24.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
