Théories spectrales, chapter I, § 6. Algèbres stellaires
Every injective morphism of stellar algebras is isometric and, in particular, has closed image.
Let A and be stellar algebras and let be a morphism of involutive algebras from A into .
Suppose first that A and are unital and that is unital. One has (Proposition 2). Suppose there exists in A such that . Put ; this is a hermitian element of A. Since A and are stellar algebras, one has , that is, (Lemma 7 of I, p. 104). In particular, Sp is a closed subset of Sp, distinct from Sp (Remark 6 of I, p. 3 and Theorem 1 of I, p. 24). There then exists a non-zero function (Sp) such that Sp (TG, IX, p. 13, Proposition 3). Put A. One has since , but since vanishes on Sp (Proposition 8). Hence is not injective.
Let us now treat the general case. Let and be the stellar algebras deduced from A and respectively by adjunction of a unit element (Definition 4 of I, p. 106). There exists a unique unital morphism of involutive algebras extending . This morphism is injective, hence is isometric by what precedes. For every , one then has .
Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
