Théories spectrales, chapter I, § 6. Algèbres stellaires

Let A be a unital involutive algebra and let A~\widetilde{A} be the unital involutive algebra deduced from A by adjunction of a unit element ee. For every x∈Ax\in A, one has SpA′(x)='_A(x) = SpA(x)∪{0}_A(x)\cup \{0\}. Let xx be a normal element of A. Then it is a normal element of A~\widetilde{A}, and therefore one has two mappings of functional calculus in A, the first defined on C\mathscr{C} (SpA(x)_A(x)) and the second on C′\mathscr{C}'(SpA′(x)'_A(x)). Let f′∈C′f'\in \mathscr{C}'(SpA′(x)'_A(x)); if ff denotes its restriction to SpA(x)_A(x), one then has f′(x)=f(x)f'(x) =f(x).

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
