Théories spectrales, chapter I, § 6. Algèbres stellaires

Let A be an involutive algebra. An element xx of A is said to be positive if it is hermitian and if SpA′(x)⊂R+'_A(x)\subset \mathbf{R}_+. The set of positive elements of A is denoted by A+A_+. It is a subset of AhA_h.

One writes x⩾yx\geqslant y if x−y∈A+x-y\in A_+.

If the involutive algebra A is unital, its unit element is positive.

If B is an involutive subalgebra of A, one has B+=B∩A+B_+= B\cap A_+ (cor. of prop. 5 of I, p. 106).

If π:A→\pi : A\rightarrow B is a morphism of involutive algebras, then π(A+)⊂B+\pi (A_+)\subset B_+.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
