Théories spectrales, chapter I, § 6. Algèbres stellaires

Let xx be a positive element of A. Let α∈R+∗\alpha \in \mathbf{R}^*_+. Then x1/αx^{1/\alpha} is the unique positive element yy of A such that yα=xy^{\alpha}=x.

It was seen above that x1/αx^{1/\alpha} satisfies the required properties. Conversely, let yy be a positive element of A such that yα=xy^{\alpha}=x. By formula (5), one has y=(yα)1/α=x1/αy= (y^{\alpha})^{1/\alpha}=x^{1/\alpha}, which was to be proved.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
