Théories spectrales, chapter I, § 6. Algèbres stellaires

Let A be a normed involutive algebra and let jj be the canonical morphism of A into Stell(A). For every stellar algebra B and every morphism φ\varphi of involutive algebras from A into B, there exists a unique morphism φ′\varphi ' of stellar algebras from Stell(A) into B such that φ=φ′∘j\varphi =\varphi '\circ j.

Let us denote by x↦∥x∥∗x\mapsto \|x\|_* the norm on Stell(A). Let R be the kernel of jj. The mapping x↦∥φ(x)∥x\mapsto \|\varphi (x)\| is a stellar seminorm on A. Hence one has ∥φ(x)∥⩽∥x∥∗\|\varphi (x)\|\leqslant \|x\|_* for all x∈Ax\in A. The morphism φ\varphi therefore defines, by passing to the quotient, a continuous morphism of A/RA/R into B, which extends by continuity to a morphism φ′\varphi ' of Stell(A) into B satisfying φ=φ′∘j\varphi =\varphi '\circ j. The uniqueness of φ′\varphi ' follows from the fact that the image of jj is dense in Stell(A).

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
