Théories spectrales, chapter III, § 1. Applications linéaires compactes

Let E be a topological vector space, E^\widehat{E} its separated completion and jj the canonical mapping of E into E^\widehat{E}. Let uu be a compact linear mapping of E into a separated topological vector space F. Then there exists a unique compact linear mapping vv of E^\widehat{E} into F such that u=v∘ju=v\circ j.

Identify F with a topological vector subspace of F^\widehat{F} and denote by u^:E^→F^\widehat{u}:\widehat{E}\rightarrow \widehat{F} the unique continuous linear mapping such that u^∘j\widehat{u}\circ j coincides with uu on E. Since uu is compact, there exist a neighbourhood V of 0 in E and a compact subset A of F such that u(V)⊂Au(V)\subset A. We have u^(j(V))⊂A\widehat{u}(j(V))\subset A, whence u^(j(V))⊂A\widehat{u}(j(V))\subset A. Now j(V)j(V) is a neighbourhood of 0 in E^\widehat{E} (TG, III, p. 24, Prop. 7). It follows that the image of u^\widehat{u} is contained in F and the continuous linear mapping v:E^→Fv:\widehat{E}\rightarrow F deduced from u^\widehat{u} by passing to the subspace is compact. Since j(E)j(E) is dense in E^\widehat{E}, the mapping vv is the unique continuous linear mapping of E^\widehat{E} into F such that u=v∘ju=v\circ j.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
