Théories spectrales, chapter III, § 3. Endomorphismes de Fredholm et endomorphismes de Riesz
Let E and F be locally convex spaces, a closed subspace of finite codimension of E and a continuous linear mapping of E into F. In order that be a strict morphism with closed image, it is necessary and sufficient that be one.
Suppose first that the linear mapping is injective. Then we have Ker() , so that Ker() is of finite dimension. Let S be a vector subspace of E supplementary to Ker(). The space E is a topological direct sum of , Ker() and S (EVT, I, p. 15, cor. 4 and prop. 3). If is a strict morphism with closed image, it defines by restriction an isomorphism of onto a closed vector subspace of F, and fortiori an isomorphism of onto a closed vector subspace of F. Conversely, suppose that defines by restriction an isomorphism of onto and that is closed in F. We have . It follows that is a topological direct sum of and (S), and is closed in F (loc. cit.). Since is closed and we have , the space is separated and defines by restriction an isomorphism of S onto (EVT, I, p. 15, cor. de la prop. 3), hence also of onto . This proves that is a strict morphism with closed image.
Passing to the general case. Put Ker() and . The locally convex space identifies with a closed vector subspace of finite codimension of G. Let be the continuous linear mapping deduced from by passing to the quotient. In order that (resp. ) be a strict morphism with closed image, it is necessary and sufficient that (resp. ) be one. This reduces us to the case already treated.
Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
