Théories spectrales, chapter III, § 3. Endomorphismes de Fredholm et endomorphismes de Riesz

Let E be a separated locally convex space and uu an endomorphism of E. The following conditions are equivalent:

(i) uu is a Riesz endomorphism of E;

(ii) There exists a quasi-inverse vv of uu which commutes with uu;

(iii) There exists a closed vector subspace E1E_1 of E, of finite codimension, stable under uu, such that uu induces an automorphism of E1E_1.

The implication (i) =⇒=\Rightarrow (ii) follows from prop. 6, d).

Suppose that uu possesses a quasi-inverse vv which is permutable with uu. The kernel E1E_1 of 1E−u∘v1_E-u\circ v is a closed vector subspace of E, of finite codimension, stable under uu and vv. Since one has u(v(x))=v(u(x))=xu(v(x)) =v(u(x)) =x for every x∈E1x\in E_1, the mappings uu and vv induce automorphisms of E1E_1 inverse to one another. Thus (ii) implies (iii).

Finally, the implication (iii) =⇒=\Rightarrow (i) follows from assertion a) of prop. 7 and from the fact that an automorphism is a Riesz endomorphism.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
