Théories spectrales, chapter III, § 6. Propriétés spectrales des endomorphismes des espaces de Banach

Let E and F be complete normed spaces, u:E→Fu: E\rightarrow F and v:F→Ev: F\rightarrow E continuous linear mappings.

a) The traces on C−{0}\mathbf{C}-\{0\} of the sets Sp(v∘uv\circ u) and Sp(u∘vu\circ v) ((resp. Sps(v∘u)_s(v\circ u) and Sps(u∘v)_s(u\circ v), resp. Spn(v∘u)_n(v\circ u) and Spn(u∘v)_n(u\circ v) for n∈Z‾n\in \overline{\mathbf{Z}}, resp. Spω(v∘u)_{\omega}(v\circ u) and Spω(u∘v))_{\omega}(u\circ v)) are equal;

b) Let λ\lambda be an element of Sps(v∘u)_s(v\circ u) distinct from 0. The spectral multiplicities of λ\lambda for v∘uv\circ u and for u∘vu\circ v are equal.

Let μ\mu be a nonzero complex number and let n∈Z‾n\in \overline{\mathbf{Z}}. In order that μ1E−v∘u\mu1_E-v\circ u be an automorphism (resp. a Riesz endomorphism, resp. a strict morphism whose kernel or cokernel is of finite dimension and whose index is nn), it is necessary and sufficient that μ1F−u∘v\mu1_F-u\circ v be one (III, p. 49, prop. 10). Assertion a) then follows from the definitions.

Let λ\lambda be a point of Sps(v∘u)_s(v\circ u) distinct from 0. One has

dim Ker((λ1E−v∘u\lambda 1_E-v\circ u)n^n) == dim Ker((λ1F−u∘v\lambda 1_F-u\circ v)n^n)

for every n⩾0(n\geqslant 0 (loc. cit.), therefore the spectral multiplicities of λ\lambda for v∘uv\circ u and u∘vu\circ v are equal.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
