Théories spectrales, chapter IV, § 2. Endomorphismes normaux

Let g∈L∞(X,μ)g\in L^{\infty}(X, \mu).

a) The spectrum of m~g\widetilde{m}_g in L(L2(X,μ))\mathscr{L}(L^2(X, \mu)) is the μ-essential image of gg;

b) The endomorphism m~g\widetilde{m}_g is positive if and only if gg is locally μ-almost everywhere with positive values;

c) For every function f∈Cf\in \mathscr{C} (Sp(m~g\widetilde{m}_g)), one has f(m~g)=m~f∘gf(\widetilde{m}_g) =\widetilde{m}_{f\circ g}.

Since m~\widetilde{m} is injective, one has Sp(m~g\widetilde{m}_g) == Sp(gg) by Prop. 5 of I, p. 106; the result then follows from Lemma 6 of IV, p. 185, from Proposition 4 of IV, p. 185 and from Definition 6 of I, p. 115.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
