Théories spectrales, chapter IV, § 3. Distributions et distributions tempérées

Let ff be a tempered distribution associated with a bounded measure ν∈M1(Rn)(\nu \in \mathscr{M}^1(\mathbf{R}^n) (resp. with g∈L2(Rn))g\in L^2(\mathbf{R}^n)). The Fourier transform of ff in S′(Rn)\mathscr{S}'(\mathbf{R}^n) is the tempered distribution associated with the Fourier transform of the measure ν(\nu (resp. with the Fourier transform of g).

Let ν\nu be a bounded measure on Rn\mathbf{R}^n and ff the tempered distribution associated with ν\nu. The Fourier transform F(ν)\mathscr{F}(\nu ) is a continuous and bounded function on Rn\mathbf{R}^n (prop. 3 of II, p. 207). The tempered distribution associated with this function satisfies

⟨F(ν),φ⟩=∫RnF(ν)φdμ=∫RnF(φ)dν=⟨f,F(φ)⟩=⟨F(f),φ⟩ \langle \mathscr{F}(\nu ), \varphi \rangle =\int_{\mathbf{R}^n}\mathscr{F}(\nu )\varphi d\mu=\int_{\mathbf{R}^n}\mathscr{F}(\varphi )d\nu =\langle f,\mathscr{F}(\varphi )\rangle =\langle \mathscr{F}(f), \varphi \rangle

for every φ∈S(Rn)\varphi \in \mathscr{S}(\mathbf{R}^n), where the second equality is prop. 13 of II, p. 221, which is applicable here since the measure φ⋅μ\varphi \cdot \mu is bounded. The tempered distribution associated with F(ν)\mathscr{F}(\nu ) is therefore F(f)\mathscr{F}(f).

When ff is the tempered distribution associated with g∈L2(Rn)g\in L^2(\mathbf{R}^n), one follows an entirely analogous procedure using formula (29) of II, p. 221.

A similar statement is also valid for the Fourier cotransform.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
