Théories spectrales, chapter IV, § 4. Opérateurs partiels
Let E, F and G be normed spaces over K, F being a Banach space. Let be a closed partial operator from E into F and let . If there exists such that
for every dom() dom(), that is to say, if the linear mapping from into F is continuous, then is closed.
Let us write . Let be a sequence in the graph of which converges in . Let be the limit of the sequence . The hypothesis implies that the sequence is then a Cauchy sequence in F; it converges to an element of F. Since is closed, one has therefore dom() and . Then tends to since is continuous, hence the graph of is closed.
Let be a closed partial operator on a Banach space E and F a subspace of dom(). If F is dense in the Banach space , then the restriction of to F is closable, and its closure is equal to . One then says that F is a core for .
Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
