Théories spectrales, chapter IV, § 4. Opérateurs partiels
Let X be a locally compact topological space and let be a positive measure on X. Let and be fixed elements of .
Let be a -measurable function on X with values in K. Let D denote the subspace of formed by the functions in such that . The linear mapping from D into defined by determines a partial operator from into , which is denoted by .
The vector subspace of -negligible functions in is contained in D, and the image under of a -negligible function is again -negligible. We shall denote by the partial operator from into deduced from by passing to quotients. It is said to be the multiplication operator by from into . Functions and which are locally equal -almost everywhere define the same multiplication operator.
Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
