Théories spectrales, chapter IV, § 4. Opérateurs partiels
Let E be a complex Hilbert space and let be a closed partial operator with dense domain on E. Let . Suppose that there exists a real number such that
(10) for every dom(),
(11) for every dom().
Then belongs to the resolvent set of and .
The assumption implies that and are injective. Let F be the image of . The space F is dense in E, since its orthogonal is equal to Ker() (prop. 7, c) of IV, p. 236), which is zero.
Let us prove that the space F is closed. Let be a sequence in dom() such that the sequence converges to . Inequality (10) implies that the sequence is a Cauchy sequence in E. Let be its limit. The sequence converges to in ; since the graph of is closed, we therefore have dom() and , which proves that .
We conclude that F = E. Thus, the partial operator is bijective, whence Sp() (remark 3). Inequality (10) then implies that .
Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
