Théories spectrales, chapter IV, § 4. Opérateurs partiels

Let E be a complex Banach space and let uu be a closed partial operator on E. Let ε\varepsilon be a strictly positive real number. The ε\varepsilon-pseudospectrum of uu is by definition the union of the spectrum of uu and of the set of complex numbers λ\lambda belonging to the resolvent set of uu such that ∥R(u,λ)∥>ε−1\|R(u, \lambda )\|> \varepsilon^{-1}. This set is denoted by PSpε(u)_{\varepsilon}(u).

Some authors define the ε\varepsilon-pseudospectrum of uu as the set Tε(u)T_{\varepsilon}(u) equal to the union of Sp(uu) and of the set of λ∈C−\lambda \in \mathbf{C}- Sp(uu) such that ∥R(u,λ)∥⩾ε−1\|R(u, \lambda )\|\geqslant \varepsilon^{-1}. The closure of PSpε(u)_{\varepsilon}(u) is contained in Tε(u)T_{\varepsilon}(u), but this inclusion may be strict, even if E is a Hilbert space (cf. exercises 18 of IV, p. 348 and 19 of IV, p. 349).

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
