Théories spectrales, chapter IV, § 4. Opérateurs partiels

Let uu be a closed symmetric operator on a complex Hilbert space E. We have

Ker(u∗−iu^*-i)∘=^{\circ}= Im(u+iu+i),

Ker(u∗+iu^*+i)∘=^{\circ}= Im(u−iu-i).

By prop. 7, c) of IV, p. 236, it is enough to prove that the image of u+iu+i (resp. of u−iu-i) is closed in E. Since uu is symmetric, we have ⟨(u+i)(x)∣(u+i)(y)⟩=(x∣y)u\langle (u+i)(x)|(u+i)(y)\rangle = (x|y)_u for all xx and yy in dom(uu). The mapping x↦u(x)+ixx\mapsto u(x) +ix of EuE_u into E is therefore isometric. Its image is closed in E (lemma 8 of I, p. 107). Since this is also the image of u+iu+i, the latter is closed in E. Analogously, the image of u−iu-i is closed in E.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
