Théories spectrales, chapter IV, § 5. Opérateurs partiels normaux et théorème spectral

Let uu be a partial operator on E. One says that uu is normal if uu is closed with dense domain and if its bornification b(u)b(u) is a normal endomorphism of E.

If u∈Lu\in \mathscr{L} (E), this definition agrees with EVT, V, p. 42, def. 4, by virtue of the formulas 1E−b(u)∗b(u)=W(u)=(1E+u∗u)−11_E-b(u)^*b(u) = W(u) = (1_E+u^*u)^{-1} (prop. 1 of IV, p. 262) and b(u∗)=b(u)∗b(u^*) =b(u)^* (cor. of loc. cit.).

If uu is a self-adjoint partial operator on E, then b(u)b(u) is hermitian (cor. of prop. 2 of IV, p. 264), therefore uu is normal.

Let D be the open unit disk in C\mathbf{C}. We denote by β\beta the function from C\mathbf{C} into D defined by β(z)=z/√1+∣z∣2‾\beta (z) =z/\surd\overline{1 + |z|^2}. It is a homeomorphism, whose inverse satisfies β−1(z)=z/√1−∣z∣2‾\beta^{-1}(z) =z/\surd\overline{1 - |z|^2} for z∈Dz\in D.

Let u∈L(E)u\in \mathscr{L}(E). It follows from formulas (2) and (3) of proposition 1 of IV, p. 262 that u=β−1(b(u))u=\beta^{-1}(b(u)), and therefore

b(u)=β(u)(5) b(u) =\beta (u) \tag{5}

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
