Théories spectrales, chapter IV, § 5. Opérateurs partiels normaux et théorème spectral

Let uu be a partial normal operator on a Hilbert space E. Let f∈Luf\in \mathscr{L}_u(Sp(uu)). For all xx and yy in E, the spectral measure of (x,y)(x, y) relative to f(u)f(u) is the image measure f(μ)f(\mu), where μ\mu is the spectral measure of (x,y)(x, y) relative to uu.

In view of the spectral theorem (th. 1 of IV, p. 266), one may suppose that uu is the multiplication operator mgm_g on L2(X,μ)L^2(X, \mu), where X is a locally compact topological space, μ\mu a positive measure on X and g∈C(X)g\in \mathscr{C}(X). Let f1f_1 and f2f_2 be in L2(X,μ)\mathscr{L}^2(X, \mu), with classes f~1\widetilde{f}_1 and f~2\widetilde{f}_2 in L2(X,μ)L^2(X, \mu). Since f(mg)=mf∘gf(m_g) =m_{f\circ g} (prop. 4, c)), the spectral measure of (f~1,f~2)(\widetilde{f}_1,\widetilde{f}_2) relative to f(mg)f(m_g) is the image measure (f∘g)(f‾1f2⋅μ)(f\circ g)(\overline{f}_1f_2\cdot \mu) (lemma 4, b) of IV, p. 269). This measure is equal to the image measure f(g(f1f2⋅μ))f(g(f_1f_2\cdot \mu)) (INT, V, p. 72, § 6, no4^o4, prop. 4, a)), whence the assertion (lemma 4, b) of IV, p. 269).

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
