Théories spectrales, chapter IV, § 5. Opérateurs partiels normaux et théorème spectral

Let λ∈\lambda \in Sp(uu). The image of p{λ}p_{\{\lambda\}} is the proper subspace of uu relative to λ\lambda.

Let x∈x\in dom(uu). Let μ\mu (resp. ν\nu ) denote the spectral measure of the element xx relative to uu (resp. the spectral measure of (x,u(x))(x, u(x)) relative to uu). One has ν=\nu = IdSp(u)⋅μ_{Sp(u)}\cdot \mu (Corollary to Proposition 5 of IV, p. 275). If u(x)=λxu(x) =\lambda x, one also has ν=λμ\nu =\lambda \mu, whence the equality IdSp(u)⋅μ=λμ_{Sp(u)}\cdot \mu=\lambda \mu. This implies that the support of μ\mu is contained in {λ}(\{\lambda \}(cf. INT, V, p. 46, § 5, no3^o3, Corollary 2) and therefore xx belongs to the image of p{λ}p_{\{\lambda\}} (Proposition 9, a)).

Conversely, suppose that xx belongs to the image EλE_{\lambda} of p{λ}p_{\{\lambda\}}. Then xx belongs to dom(uu) and u(x)u(x) also belongs to Eλ(E_{\lambda}(loc. cit., b)). Since φ{λ}⋅\varphi_{\{\lambda\}}\cdot (IdSp(u)−λ_{Sp(u)}-\lambda ) =0= 0, one has the relation p{λ}∘(u−λ1E)⊂0p_{\{\lambda\}}\circ (u-\lambda 1_E)\subset 0 (Proposition 5 of IV, p. 275, c)), whence 0=p{λ}(u(x))−λp{λ}(x)=u(x)−λx0 =p_{\{\lambda\}}(u(x))-\lambda p_{\{\lambda\}}(x) =u(x)-\lambda x.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
