Théories spectrales, chapter V, § 1. Représentations unitaires

Let G be a topological group, and let ϱ\varrho be a homomorphism of G into the unitary group U(E)\mathbf{U}(E) of a Hilbert space E. Then ϱ\varrho is a unitary representation of G if and only if ϱ\varrho is continuous at the element ee of G for the topology of simple convergence on U(E)\mathbf{U}(E). It is enough that this property be valid for every xx in a total subset of E.

The condition is obviously necessary. It is sufficient by Remark 2 of INT, VIII, p. 129, § 2, no1^o1, since the image of ϱ\varrho is equicontinuous in L(E)\mathscr{L}(E) and since the continuity of the mapping g↦ϱ(g)xg\mapsto \varrho (g)x at ee implies its continuity on G.

Let G be a topological group. If ϱ1\varrho_1 and ϱ2\varrho_2 are unitary representations of G and if uu belong to HomG(ϱ1,ϱ2)_G(\varrho_1, \varrho_2), then u∗u^* belong to HomG(ϱ2,ϱ1)_G(\varrho_2, \varrho_1). In fact, since ϱ1\varrho_1 and ϱ2\varrho_2 are unitary representations, one has for every g∈Gg\in G

u∗∘ϱ2(g)=u∗∘ϱ2(g−1)∗=(ϱ2(g−1)∘u)∗ u^*\circ \varrho_2(g) =u^*\circ \varrho_2(g^{-1})^*= (\varrho_2(g^{-1})\circ u)^*
=(u∘ϱ1(g−1))∗=ϱ1(g)∘u∗ = (u\circ \varrho_1(g^{-1}))^*=\varrho_1(g)\circ u^*

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
