Théories spectrales, chapter V, § 2. Représentations des groupes localement compacts
Let be a -measurable function equal to zero outside such that the function is -integrable on . Let be the E-valued function on G such that
if
0 if - .
a) The function is -measurable; it belong to and is equal to zero outside ;
b) The function belong to and almost everywhere modulo H.
The function is equal to zero outside by definition; it is -measurable since the function is -measurable and for every (INT, IV, p. 193, § 5, n, prop. 16). One has because .
The function is locally -integrable, since is a -integrable function (INT, VII, p. 47, § 2, No., prop. 6, c), noting that the measure is equivalent to , hence the function is also so by formula (5). The function is measurable and zero outside a compact subset of G; since is bounded, it follows that is -integrable.
For all - , we have
since ; the last assertion follows from prop. 4, a).
When and is of dimension 1, the following proposition is none other than INT, IV, p. 184, § 5, No., th. 5.
Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
