Théories spectrales, chapter V, § 2. Représentations des groupes localement compacts

Let uu be a self-adjoint partial operator on E. For t∈Rt\in \mathbf{R}, put ϱ(t)=eitu∈L(E)\varrho (t) =e^{itu}\in \mathscr{L}(E). Then the mapping ϱ\varrho is a unitary representation of R\mathbf{R}.

The operator ϱ(t)\varrho (t) is defined by the universally measurable functional calculus (def. 5 of IV, p. 272); it is an endomorphism of E since the function x↦eitxx\mapsto e^{itx} is bounded on Sp(uu) (prop. 5, a) of IV, p. 275).

By Prop. 5 of IV, p. 275, we have ϱ(0)=1E,ϱ(t)∗=ϱ(−t)\varrho (0) = 1_E,\varrho (t)^*=\varrho (-t) for every t∈Rt\in \mathbf{R} and ϱ(t1+t2)=ϱ(t1)ϱ(t2)\varrho (t_1+t_2) =\varrho (t_1)\varrho (t_2) for all t1t_1 and t2t_2 in R\mathbf{R}. In particular, the endomorphism ϱ(t)\varrho (t) is unitary for every t∈Rt\in \mathbf{R}. For every x∈Ex\in E, the mapping of R\mathbf{R} into E defined by x↦ϱ(t)xx\mapsto \varrho (t)x is continuous at t=0t= 0 by Prop. 6 of IV, p. 276, hence ϱ\varrho is a unitary representation of R\mathbf{R} in E (V, p. 380, Lemma 4).

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
