Théories spectrales, chapter V, § 4. Représentations des groupes compacts

The following subspaces of L2(G)L^2(G) are equal:

a) The space Θ(G) ;

b) The algebraic direct sum of the subspaces ϱG(π)\boldsymbol{\varrho }_G(\pi ) of L2(G)L^2(G);

c) The space of G-finite vectors (cf. V, p. 376) of γG\boldsymbol{\gamma }_G;

d) The space of G-finite vectors of δG\boldsymbol{\delta }_G;

e) The space of (G×G)(G\times G)-finite vectors of ϱG\boldsymbol{\varrho }_G.

In particular, every G-finite vector of γG,δG\boldsymbol{\gamma }_G,\boldsymbol{\delta }_G or ϱG\boldsymbol{\varrho }_G belongs to C(G)\mathscr{C}(G).

Let us denote by FaF_a (resp. Fb,Fc,Fd,FeF_b, F_c, F_d, F_e) the space defined by condition a) (resp. b), c), d), e)). We have already observed that Fa=FbF_a= F_b.

We have Fb⊂FcF_b\subset F_c because ϱG(π)\boldsymbol{\varrho }_G(\pi ) is a finite-dimensional subrepresentation of γG\boldsymbol{\gamma }_G for every π∈G^\pi \in \widehat{G}. Conversely, let ff be a G-finite vector of γG\boldsymbol{\gamma }_G. The subspace EfE_f generated by the functions γG(g)f\boldsymbol{\gamma }_G(g)f for g∈Gg\in G is a finite-dimensional subrepresentation of γG\boldsymbol{\gamma }_G. It is equal to the direct sum of its π\pi-isotypic components for π∈G^\pi \in \widehat{G} (Prop. 1 of V, p. 457). By Cor. 4 of V, p. 463, this implies that EfE_f is contained in the sum of the spaces ϱG(π)\boldsymbol{\varrho }_G(\pi ), hence Fc⊂FbF_c\subset F_b.

By analogous reasoning, one obtains Fb=FdF_b= F_d, and since ϱG(π)\boldsymbol{\varrho }_G(\pi ) is a subrepresentation of ϱG\boldsymbol{\varrho }_G, one establishes in the same way that Fb=FeF_b= F_e.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
