Théories spectrales, chapter V, § 4. Représentations des groupes compacts

The vector space Θ(G♯)\Theta (G^{\sharp}) is dense in C(G♯)\mathscr{C}(G^{\sharp}) and in L2(G♯)L^2(G^{\sharp}).

The second assertion follows from prop. 9. As to the first assertion, consider the linear representation ϱ\varrho of G on the Banach space C(G)\mathscr{C}(G) defined by

ϱ(g)f(x)=f(g−1xg) \varrho (g)f(x) =f(g^{-1}xg)

for every f∈C(G)f\in \mathscr{C}(G) and every x∈Gx\in G. It is a continuous isometric representation, and C(G♯)\mathscr{C}(G^{\sharp}) is the space of the elements invariant under this representation. The continuous projector p=ϱ(1)p=\varrho (1) of C(G)\mathscr{C}(G) therefore has image C(G♯)\mathscr{C}(G^{\sharp}) (cor. 3 of V, p. 466); it has norm ⩽1\leqslant 1.

Let f∈C(G♯)f\in \mathscr{C}(G^{\sharp}) and let ε>0\varepsilon >0. There exists f~∈Θ(G)\widetilde{f}\in \Theta (G) such that ∥f−f~∥⩽ε\|f-\widetilde{f}\|\leqslant \varepsilon (prop. 4 of V, p. 462), and then ∥f−p(f~)∥=∥p(f−f~)∥⩽ε\|f-p(\widetilde{f})\|=\|p(f-\widetilde{f})\|\leqslant \varepsilon; since p(f~)∈C(G♯)p(\widetilde{f})\in \mathscr{C}(G^{\sharp}), we conclude that Θ(G♯)\Theta (G^{\sharp}) is dense in C(G♯)\mathscr{C}(G^{\sharp}).

Let R(G)R(G) denote the Grothendieck ring of continuous representations of GG in finite-dimensional separated complex vector spaces (cf. LIE, IX, p. 70 and A, VIII, p. 182, applied to the additive class of continuous representations of GG in finite-dimensional separated complex vector spaces, viewed as C\mathbf{C}[G]-modules). Since every continuous linear representation of GG in a finite-dimensional separated topological vector space is semisimple (prop. 1 of V, p. 457), the abelian group R(G)R(G) is free and the classes of irreducible unitary representations π∈G^\pi \in \widehat{G} form a basis of it (A, VIII, p. 186, prop. 7).

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
