Commutative Algebra, chapter II, § 5. Finitely generated projective modules. Invertible fractional ideals

*Let nn be an integer ⩾0\geqslant 0. A projective AA-module PP is said to be of rank nn if it is finitely generated and rgp(P)=n\mathrm{rg}_p(P) = n for every prime ideal pp of AA.*

Clearly every finitely generated free AA-module LL is of rank nn in the sense of Definition 2, nn being equal to the dimension (or rank) of LL defined in Algebra, Chapter II, § 7, no. 2.

A projective module of rank 0 is zero (§ 3, no. 3, Corollary 2 to Theorem 1). If AA is not reduced to 0 and a projective AA-module PP is of rank nn, the integer nn is determined uniquely; it is then denoted by rg(P)\mathrm{rg}(P).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
