Commutative Algebra, chapter III, § 1. Finitely generated graded algebras

A commutative algebra BB over a commutative ring AA is called finitely generated if it is generated by a finite family of elements.

It amounts to the same to say that BB is isomorphic to an AA-algebra of the form A[X1,…,Xn]/aA[X_1, \ldots, X_n]/a (where the XiX_i are indeterminates and aa is an ideal of the polynomial ring A[X1,…,Xn]A[X_1, \ldots, X_n]).

If the AA-algebra BB is a finitely generated AA-module, it is obviously a finitely generated AA-algebra; the converse is false as the example of polynomial algebras shows (cf. Chapter V).

If BB is a finitely generated AA-algebra and A′A' is any commutative AA-algebra, B(A′)=B⊗AA′B_{(A')} = B \otimes_A A' is a finitely generated A′A'-algebra, for if (xi)i∈I(x_i)_{i \in I} is a system of generators of the AA-algebra BB, clearly the x,⊗1x, \otimes 1 form a system of generators of the AA-algebra B(A′)B_{(A')}.

If BB is a finitely generated AA-algebra and CC a finitely generated BB-algebra, then CC is a finitely generated AA-algebra; for it follows immediately from the definitions that if (bλ)λ∈L(b_\lambda)_{\lambda \in L} is a system of generators of the AA-algebra BB and (cμ)μ∈M(c_\mu)_{\mu \in M} is a system of generators of the BB-algebra CC, every element of CC is equal to a polynomial, with coefficients in AA, in the bλb_\lambda and the cμc_\mu.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
